Irish Blog Awards Shortlist

|

The shortlists for the Irish Blog Awards have been announced, and though there were a number of surprising omissions (including a few people I'd voted for), there are also many fine blogs included.

I'm taken aback (though pleased) to find my humble self listed in two categories: 'Best Arts and Culture Blog', and (amazingly) 'Best Blog/Blogger'. It's very nice to be nominated of course, but (as I've said elsewhere today) the night should (and will I'm sure) be seen as a collective celebration of the activity of blogging, and the blogging 'community', rather than a simple prize-giving affair.

I guess I'll have to reveal who I am now (even though I'm not really anyone)…at least to the attendees. If you see someone standing near the bar, shuffling his feet, and nervously slurping Guinness (in a brave attempt at overcoming social awkwardness) that'll probably be me. Then again, there may be many engaged in similar shenanigans…at least until the 'fourth-pint-relaxation' kicks in.

Many thanks to those who voted for fustar.info, and congratulations to Damien Mulley for getting the whole thing off the ground. I doff my cap.

Speaking of Damien, Simon McGarr (over at Tuppenceworth.ie) made an excellent suggestion regarding Damien's expenses etc:

So, simply, what I'm going to do when I'm going along for the night, is pay €10 instead of €5 at the door. If everyone does the same it will cover Damien's hotel and travel costs, as he outlined them here. And if he has something left over he can buy himself a hat. Or some kind of talking orange. We'll leave those details up to him.

I think that's a splendid idea and something we could all do fairly painlessly I would have thought.

Till the 11th of March then…

Update: Damien has said thanks but no thanks. It seems that Microsoft Ireland is paying for his hotel stay.

I can get you one, but I warn you…it carries a terrible, terrible curse!

Plus, it never shuts up when you’re trying to watch telly.
